Language Arts
What are we learning?
- The students will understand that contributing, listening, and responding are equally important roles in a conversation.
- The students will understand that engaging in an exchange of ideas about books deepens your understanding of the text and broadens perspectives.
- The students will understand that school reading provides opportunities to build positive reading identities, habits, and communities.

Questions to ask your student:
- What’s worth talking about?
- How do we create reading communities?
Math
What are we learning?
- The students are learning to represent the mean of a data set graphically as the balance point.
- The students are learning to determine the different measures of center, and determine when to use each one with a set of data.
Home/School Connection
- Ask your student to look at a set of data like how many minutes of screen time they take part in each day for a week and determine the mean (average).
- Ask your student what happens to the measure of center when you take the lowest or highest number out of a set of data.
Social Studies
What are we learning?
- The students are taking a closer look at the Battle of Gettysburg to determine how it was a turning point in the Civil War.
- The students are looking at the general effects of the war on all Americans.
Home/School Connection
- Ask your students to give you 2 to 3 reasons why the Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the war.
- Ask your student to explain how the war affected all Americans.
