Language Arts

What are we learning?

  • We are working hard learning the format of a persuasive essay and how to support our arguments. 
  • In reading we will take a second look at important skills for nonfiction to prepare for our Global Awareness Technology Project (GATP) 
  • Students will be learning to locate credible and reliable sources as they learn the stages of the research process

  • Discuss what makes a good case, facts, evidence, strong arguments

Math

What are we learning?

  • Advanced math will blend our understanding of integer operations, positive and negative numbers and  exponents while following the order of operations. We will also dig into calculations with circles.

Home/School Connection

  • Watch for algebra in the world, what is the expression? For example the check out line for “15 or less” 
  • Figure how much money each family member will get to spend at the carnival when you have a total of $51.45. Show your division strategy.

Science

What are we learning?

  • What fun we are having learning about cells, cell parts and the microscopic world.  
  • Soon we will go from macro to micro, understanding the traits and characteristics of vertebrates and invertebrates

Home/School Connection

  • Take a walk, what do you notice? How many vertebrates and invertebrates do you notice? Keep a list and start to track who lives near you.
