  • Using expression and pace to show the mood of a poem
  • Reacting to language, imagery, and experiences told through poetry.
  • Using techniques and tools to bring out what’s important or the meaning of the poem such as repeated lines, words, white space, and line breaks
  • Sharing poems and listening to poems of their peers to get new ideas for writing poems

Home/School Connection

Supporting Your Child with Reading at Home

  • Providing choice is a wonderful way to support your child with reading at home.  When students have choices about what they read, how they read, and the time they read, it increases their motivation to read, and it helps them make decisions about themselves as readers. Your child may choose to reread a favorite book 5 days in a row, only read the pictures some days, read a graphic novel,  read something that is too easy, read under the covers, read on a device, or ask you to read to them. All of these choices and experiences are helping your child develop as a reader and, most importantly,  helping him/her develop a love of reading!
