What are we learning?
- Readers follow the journey of characters to develop new understandings about the human experience
- Readers understand that characters are the heart of fiction
- Readers infer to fill in what the text does not provide
- Understand the elements of a story
- Writers zoom into small moments and reflect on their significance in memoirs
Home/School Connection
- What are some traits to describe your main character?
- What connections can I make to my character? / How do my experiences shape my interpretation of stories?
- What is a memory you have when you felt embarrassed? What did you learn from this experience?
Math
What are we learning?
- AAP Math: Decimal Computation ( add, subtract, multiply and divide), Practical problems with decimals, Fraction Computation, including understanding with models
Home/School Connection
- Consumer math is the focus. For example, what is the cost for one donut if a dozen is $3.99 or one apple if one pound is $1.95. Have your child look through a grocery flyer and plan a family meal.
Science
What are we learning?
We continue learning about the natural forces at work on our planet. Special guest Ms. Annie Scott, With the U.S. Geological Survey will visit with the fifth grade on October 28

- Take a walk, we have been working on Observations and Inferences, what do you see and notice? What can you infer?
