We will begin our study of the interesting genre of fantasy.
Students will read and listen to fantasy stories and learn the common elements.
Later in the unit students will write their own fantasy short stories.
We will wrap up our narrative nonfiction writing with careful revision and editing.

What are we learning?
Grade five math will work with adding and subtracting with fractions with like and unlike denominators. We will be working to build number sense related to combining fractions. Students will understand how to combine (add) and separate (subtract) fractions that have different sized pieces (denominators). We will use real life problems and pattern blocks to build student understanding.
AAP math will begging working with understanding and plotting data on the Coordinate plane

Do some kitchen math with fractions, add and subtract fractional parts of pies, brownies, and a sandwich.
The kitchen is a great place for research into fractions. Recipes off many opportunities for kids to learn about fractions and combining fractions.
