What are we learning?

  • Readers follow the journey of characters to develop new understandings about the human experience
  • Readers understand that characters are the heart of fiction
  • Readers infer to fill in what the text does not provide
  • Understand the elements of a story
  • Writers zoom into small moments and reflect on their significance in memoirs

Home/School Connection

  • What are some traits to describe your main character?
  • What connections can I make to my character? / How do my experiences shape my interpretation of stories?
  • What is a memory you have when you felt embarrassed?  What did you learn from this experience?
