- Support their ideas with reasons
- Keep their audience in mind when writing a persuasive letter

- Use the structure of a letter to help communicate their ideas
Home/School Connection
Supporting Your Child with Reading at Home
Providing choice is a wonderful way to support your child with reading at home. When students have a choice about what they read, how they read, and the time they read, it increases their motivation to read and it helps them make decisions about themselves as readers. Your child may choose to reread a favorite book 5 days in a row, only read the pictures some days, read a graphic novel, read something that is too easy, read under the covers, read on a device, or ask you to read to them. All of these choices and experiences are helping your child develop as a reader.
Supporting Your Child with Writing at Home
As we begin our Persuasive Writing unit, you can support your child with thinking of ideas for their persuasive letters! You can encourage your child to think about how they would like to make the world a better place, something they would like to change, or something they would like to keep the same. You can also encourage your child to think about strong reasons to support their opinion.
