Important Dates & Reminders

February 15th is President’s Day-- No school for students.

We all have spent a lot of time on our computers this semester, and we want to take a moment to encourage you to do TWO things on your students laptop.

  1. Make sure to restart your computer a few times a week, or every night even!
  2. Clear your cache/cookies in Chrome. Here’s how to do this: press "Control+shift+delete" on your keyboard and make sure to select the drop down that says " All Time". Close chrome for 15 seconds, then reopen and try again. This should fix their problems!

Language Arts

What are we learning?

As we continue our study of poetry students are:

  • Making connections to poems they have read
  • Thinking about what poems might really be about and what the author might want them to know or feel
  • Using expression and pace to show the mood of a poem
  • Reacting to language, imagery, and experiences told through poetry.
  • Using techniques and tools to bring out what’s important or the meaning of the poem such as repeated lines, words, white space, and line breaks
  • Sharing poems and listening to poems of their peers to get new ideas for writing poems

Home/School Connection

Ways to explore poetry at home:

  • Plan your own family poetry jam! Each member of your family can choose and practice a favorite poem. Then, set aside a special time to celebrate poetry by having each person share their poem.
  • If your child is struggling to come up with ideas for writing poems, encourage him/her to think about things that are important to him/her, feelings they have about something, or something that has  happened to them.
  • Encourage your child to share their poems with you!

Math

What are we learning?

  • We are returning to  some math skills from earlier units:
    •  We will read, write, and identify the place value of each digit in a three-digit number.
    • Identify the number that is 10 more, 10 less, 100 more, and 100 less
    • Work on continuing patterns
  • Start new topics:
    • We will identify time
    • Count and compare value of money up to $2.00

Home/School Connection

  • Have your student tell you the time throughout the day!
