Get ready to cheer loud and proud at the Terraset Basketball Challenge TOMORROW!

When: Friday, March 28th

Time: Doors open at 5:30 PM, Event begins at 6:00 PM

Where: South Lakes High School

Concessions: Grab pizza, Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, drinks, and more! (Concession tickets only — available at the door.)

Need tickets? Game passes, concession tickets, and raffle entries will all be available for purchase at the door. We will take cash or credit.

And don’t forget — it’s time to turn the stands into a sea of orange! Every student and staff member received a Terraset t-shirt to show their Tiger pride. Be sure to show your school spirit and wear orange on Friday.

🏀 Get Ready for the Terraset Basketball Challenge – Grab Your Tickets Now! 🏀

Join us on March 28th at South Lakes High School for the Terraset Basketball Challenge, where 6th graders, teachers, and staff face off in a fun and friendly basketball game!

It’s a great event for the whole family—come cheer on the players, enjoy tasty concessions, and take part in our raffle. Pre-order admission, concession tickets, and raffle tickets to skip the lines. Plus, every pre-order includes a FREE raffle ticket!

🎟️ Tickets are available now! If cost is a concern, complimentary tickets are available—please contact Ms. Chavez to request yours.

Be a Part of the Terraset Basketball Challenge – Volunteer or Donate!

The Terraset Basketball Challenge is an exciting event for our school community, and we need your help to make it a success!

• Sign Up to Volunteer. There are plenty of ways to get involved—choose a time and role that works best for you! Whether you’re helping with concessions, setup, or event activities, every volunteer makes a difference. Click here to sign up!
• Donate Concession Items. Help us keep the crowd fueled and excited! We rely on donated snacks, drinks, and treats to stock our concession stand. Check out our wish list and place your order by tomorrow, March 21st. 

Your support—whether through volunteering or donating—helps make this event a fantastic experience for our students and families. Thank you for being a part of it!

Will You Get More Involved with the PTO Next Year?

The Nominations Committee is working on putting together a slate of officers to be elected at our May meeting. They would love to hear from you if you are interested in being nominated or just want to know more about any of the elected positions (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Member At-Large). 

Nominations must be received no later than March 26. Email [email protected] to make a nomination or to get your questions answered.

There will not be a full PTO meeting in April, but a budget update, committee updates, and a slate of nominees for next year’s PTO Officers will be shared via email. Elections and an “activities fair” style event providing information about all of our PTO committees and event teams will take place on May 7 at our next full meeting.

Silent Auction Winners–Collect Your Prizes!

We had an amazing response to our 2025 Silent Auction–thank you to everyone who bid and donated. If you won an auction item, an email was sent to you the following week with information about collecting your prize. Please respond or email [email protected] to arrange a hand off of the item you won.

Support Terraset by Joining Box Tops for Education

You can help earn up to $20,000 per year to support school activities! No more cutting and mailing actual box tops - it's as easy as taking a picture of a paper receipt or emailing a digital receipt. In order to earn cash for Terraset, you'll need to use the Box Tops app on your mobile device. Use referral code GKX63NV7 to earn an extra $5 for the school when you scan your first receipt (through the end of May). It's a great way for grandparents to help too!

School and Community News

Attention Students: “Terraset’s Got Talent,” Our 2025 Talent Show, Is Coming Soon!

Applications are now available in Mrs. Gregston’s room (#613) and on the office table. They are due back to Mrs. Gregston tomorrow, Friday, March 21st. We are looking for unique, appropriate acts for this year’s Talent Show. The date of the show will be Wednesday, April 9th at 6:00 p.m. You will need to attend practices! Thank you!!!

Volunteer Opportunity at Talent Show Practices

Parents, Mrs. Gregston is seeking adult volunteers to assist during Talent Show practices! Volunteers are needed to help with general supervision and to provide an “audience” and feedback for groups of students as they practice their acts. Consistency would be ideal, but if you cannot attend every practice please don’t hesitate to sign up for the dates you can be present. The practices will take place before school on March 24, 26, 28, and April 2, 4, 7 from 8:30 to 9:00 am. Please sign up on the Sign-Up Genius and you will be contacted with more information. A New Girl Scout Troop Has Formed at Terraset! 

Terraset Parents: We are excited to announce that Girl Scout Troop 51153 has been established at our school, welcoming girls K-3. Girl Scouts helps young students discover the fun, friendship and power of girls together. This Troop will begin meeting this Spring and welcomes new Scouts! El Comité de Nominaciones está trabajando en la elaboración de la lista de directivos que se elegirán en nuestra reunión de mayo. Les encantaría saber de ti si te interesa ser nominado o si simplemente quieres saber más sobre cualquiera de los cargos electos (Presidente, Vicepresidente, Tesorero, Secretario y Miembro General).

We have lots of different volunteering options available for the Basketball Challenge, so you can choose the time and job that works best for you! You can volunteer to do things like set up a concessions table, hand out concessions, sell raffle tickets, clean up after the event, and more. (Pro tip: signing up for a shift is great for grown ups who may not enjoy the crowd and noise of the basketball court!). Click here to learn more and sign up.

We use donated snacks, drinks, and treats to supply our concessions tables, and you can help by donating concession items and supplies. Limited Space Available in a Few Tiger Clubs

Spring Tiger Clubs are off to a great start and we are so excited that so many of our tigers (174, to be exact!) have signed up to participate in 1 or more clubs. Registration is now closed, but we do have a small number of spots remaining in these clubs: Cooking for Grades 3-6 (Mondays), Cooking for Grades K-2 (Thursdays), Tiger Drummers (Wednesdays), Robotics (Fridays), Chess (Fridays), and Soccer (Wednesdays for 4 weeks beginning April 23). If you’d like to add your student to one of these clubs, please email [email protected] right away!

El plazo de inscripción ya está cerrado, pero aún quedan algunas plazas disponibles en estos clubes: Cocina para 3.º a 6.º grado (lunes), Cocina para K-2.º grado (jueves), Tamborileros Tiger (miércoles), Robótica (viernes), Ajedrez (viernes) y Fútbol (los miércoles durante 4 semanas a partir del 23 de abril). Si desea inscribir a su hijo/a en uno de estos clubes, envíe un correo electrónico a [email protected].

• Sign Up to Volunteer: We have lots of different volunteering options available for the Basketball Challenge, so you can choose the time and job that works best for you! You can volunteer to do things like set up a concessions table, hand out concessions, sell raffle tickets, clean up after the event, and more. Terraset Tigers Featured in Youth Art Month Exhibit

Come enjoy art work and support our talented Terraset artists at Lake Anne Community Center's Youth Art Month Exhibit. The Community Center is hosting an open house this Sunday, March 9th from 1pm - 4pm, but the exhibit is also open throughout the month. Visit the Community Center website for hours and more details.

A big thank you to our Mrs. Regan for her time and effort putting this show together, and our fantastic volunteers Dominique Cameron and Erin McGregor for helping with set up!

Terraset’s 2025 Silent Auction Was a Success!

Thank you to everyone who placed bids in our Silent Auction, and a huge thank you to all of the staff members who donated awesome experiences for us to include.

This fundraiser was very successful, raising more than $2,500 from the 47 items auctioned off to 27 different winning bidders.

All winning bidders have received emails from 32Auctions explaining how to pay for their winning bid. 

Everyone who has paid will be contacted by the PTO no later than Monday, February 24 with specific information about picking up/redeeming their item(s).  

Spring Tiger Clubs Registration Begins Today

Today is the day! Registration begins online at noon at https://www.homeroom.com/sites/terraset-elementary-reston/enrichment 

Clubs are first come, first served, and registration will close on March 2 or when clubs fill up.

Basketball Challenge Donation & Volunteer Opportunities

Our 2025 Basketball Challenge  wishlist is ready and your donations of items we need will be much appreciated. Check out the items we need here, or, if donating your time is your preference, don’t worry–we’ll be sharing a sign-up genius for hands-on help very soon. 

Admission, concession, and raffle tickets will be available online by the end of February as well.

Your Student Can Participate in the 2025 Terraset Basketball Challenge!

6th Grade Player Participation

The Basketball Challenge is a final four style tournament, four teams composed of 6th grade students and staff.

Basketball practices are scheduled for 8am-9am in the Terraset Gym on Tuesdays & Wednesdays. Please see Mr. Barnett for permission forms and waivers. **Please note once players are assigned to a team, their specific team will practice once a week, either Tuesdays or Wednesdays March 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25 & 26.  If there is a conflict, Mr. Barnett will work to accommodate.**

2nd-6th Grade Cheerleader Participation·     

Students participating will work on skills and cheers that will be taught by the high school cheerleaders and then perform at the game.  

Please see Mrs. Gregston for permission forms and waivers. She will be in attendance during all cheer activities. Practices will be held 3/10, 3/12, 3/14, 3/19, 3/21, 3/24, and 3/26 from 4:05-5:15 p.m. and cheerleaders will need to arrive at the game at 5:30 pm on March 28.

Students interested should return their signed permission form ASAP, and no later than March 3.

From the Terraset 6th Grade Send-Off Committee: Celebrate the Class of 2031!

Does your student have a favorite sixth grader? Maybe one of your neighbors or family friends is about to go off to middle school?

It is hard to believe, but we are only a few months away from sixth grade promotion. As one of Terraset’s traditions, our sixth graders will be enjoying a send-off party on Tuesday, June 10 as a way to enjoy some childhood fun and honor the memories they have made during elementary school. 

This party is funded by the generous support of our families. Your support will help us cover the cost of fun games, food, drinks, and gifts for each student!  We are asking for you to consider making a donation of $31 for the Class of 2031 https://terrasetpto.square.site/6th-grade-send-off

Tiger Clubs Are Back!

It’s been a long winter, tiger families, but our Spring Clubs season is almost here.

The lineup of great after-school clubs available this spring are online now at https://www.homeroom.com/sites/terraset-elementary-reston/enrichment

This is also the site where you will go to register your student beginning at noon on Thursday, February 20.

Registration will close Sunday, March 2, or whenever clubs are full. Club registration is first come, first served, and many clubs will fill up early in the registration period, so don’t delay.

The season will begin on March 10 and end on May 16. After-school clubs meet weekly until 5:00 p.m., except on days when school is closed or dismissed early. We will also not be having clubs on Friday, March 28 so that everyone can get ready for the 2025 Basketball Challenge that evening!

If your student is in need of a scholarship, reach out right away to Mrs. Chavez at [email protected]. Scholarship requests should be submitted by the end of the day today, February 17. 

Volunteers are needed this season for the Running Club for grades K-3 on Mondays. If you are interested in helping with the Running Club, please use this Google Form to let us know: https://forms.gle/FawzuckDsB5E1Q2c9 

Volunteers are also needed to assist our leaders in Lego Club (grades K-3 on Tuesdays) and the NEW Clay Charm Creation Club (grades 4-6 on Tuesdays). Please reach out to [email protected] if you are interested in volunteering to help in these clubs.

Volunteers will go through an FCPS background check and receive a volunteer badge.

Has your student ever wondered what it would be like to be the Terraset Principal for a day? Or maybe they’d enjoy a karaoke party with some of their favorite staff members? Perhaps you’d like reserved use of the PTO Volunteer parking spot for a school event without having to volunteer? 

The 2025 Silent Auction will provide opportunities for you to bid on fun experiences like these and more. Clubs Registration Begins Next Week

Spring Tiger Clubs Registration will open at noon on Thursday, February 20. Save the Date for the Terraset Basketball Challenge!

Come see our 6th graders and staff play basketball in this fun annual event on March 28thl. Terraset staff will be sharing information soon about signing up your student for basketball (6th graders) or cheerleading (3rd-6th graders). Tickets will go on sale at the end of February. Donations and volunteers will be needed to help make this year’s event a success, so stay tuned for details.

From the Terraset 6th Grade Send-Off Committee: Celebrate the Class of 2031!

Does your student have a favorite sixth grader? Maybe one of your neighbors or family friends is about to go off to middle school?

It is hard to believe, but we are only a few months away from sixth grade promotion. As one of Terraset’s traditions, our sixth graders will be enjoying a send-off party on Tuesday, June 10 as a way to enjoy some childhood fun and honor the memories they have made during elementary school. 

This party is funded by the generous support of our families. Your support will help us cover the cost of fun games, food, drinks, and gifts for each student!  We are asking for you to consider making a donation of $31 for the Class of 2031 https://terrasetpto.square.site/6th-grade-send-off

Es difícil de creer, pero estamos a solo unos meses de la promoción de sexto grado. Terraset Movie Night Is This Saturday

Join us for The Wild Robot at FREE Movie Night this Saturday, February 8th

 

Doors will open at 6:30pm and the movie starts at 7:00pm. We will have popcorn, treats, and drinks available for purchase. This is not a drop-off event. Students will need to be accompanied by a grown-up. 

We need your help to make movie night happen! Sign up to set up, sell concessions, or clean up after the event.

The 2025 Terraset Online Silent Auction provides opportunities for you to bid on experiences from Terraset staff, services from the Terraset parent community, and some experiences gift cards from businesses in our area. It’s Not Too Late to Sign Up for Terraset Ninja Night

We still have spots for more tigers to join the fun on Saturday at Life Champ Martial Arts of Reston for a Terraset Ninja Night. Drop-off begins at 5:30 and pick-up is at 10 pm (or earlier if needed!). 

The cost is $40 per child if you register before Saturday, and the price goes up to $50 if you register and pay on Saturday. Pizza is included, and a portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit the Terraset PTO. 

A registration form was sent home in Tuesday folders earlier this month–please fill it out and return it to Life Champ (not Terraset) or bring it with you on Saturday. If you need another form please email [email protected].

All are welcome at the first PTO meeting of 2025 on Wednesday, February 5 at 6:30pm in the cafeteria. Our guest speaker will be teacher Courtney Wiley who will discuss the new Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) program. Super Bowl themed refreshments and child care will be provided.

You’re invited to Terraset Movie Night!

Mark your calendar for Terraset (Indoor!) Movie Night on Saturday, February 8th at 7pm. We will be showing The Wild Robot. This is a FREE event for all Terraset families. We will have popcorn, treats, and drinks available for purchase. Please note that this is not a drop off event, and all students will need to be accompanied by a grown up.

Virtual Planning Meeting for the Basketball Challenge!

Volunteers are needed to help plan, organize and execute the big Basketball Challenge game at South Lakes HS on March 28, 2025. Whether you can serve on the planning committee, handle one specific pre-event task, or help on event day, we'd love to have your help. See below for an idea of ways to help. Most of the help is between now and game day, but if you only can help during the event let us know that as well!

Areas where help is needed:

• Shirts/spirit items
• Food /concessions
• Promotion
• Volunteer Coordination
• Raffle/donations
• Day of Help [such as selling tickets, concessions or spirit items]

We will hold an informational meeting on Monday, February 10th at 7pm via Zoom. You do not need to attend the meeting to sign-up, but you are welcome to attend. Email [email protected] for additional information!

Art Show Volunteer Opportunity

Terraset has asked for 1 or 2 volunteers to help hang art for the Youth Art Month show at the Lake Anne Community Center. Set up for the show will be on Monday, March 3rd at 9:00AM. Please email [email protected] if you're interested in helping out.

Ten en cuenta que este no es un evento en el que se dejan a los alumnos en casa y que todos los estudiantes deberán estar acompañados por un adulto.

Reunión virtual de planificación para el Desafío de Baloncesto.

Se necesitan voluntarios para ayudar a planificar, organizar y ejecutar el gran juego del Desafío de Baloncesto en South Lakes HS el 28 de marzo de 2025. Ya sea que pueda formar parte del comité de planificación, manejar una tarea específica previa al evento o ayudar el día del evento, nos encantaría contar con su ayuda. Vea a continuación una idea de las formas en que puede ayudar. La mayor parte de la ayuda es entre ahora y el día del juego, pero si solo puede ayudar durante el evento, ¡háganoslo saber también!

Don’t Miss Terraset Ninja Night/Grown Ups’ Night Out!

Join fellow tigers on Saturday, January 25 at Life Champ Martial Arts of Reston for a Terraset Ninja Night. Drop-off begins at 5:30 and pick-up is at 10 pm (or earlier if needed!). 

The cost is $40 per child if you register early, and the price goes up to $50 the day of the event. Pizza is included, and a portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit the Terraset PTO. 

A registration form was sent home in Tuesday folders last week-–we need plenty of tigers to be signed up for us to hold the event, so please fill it out and return it to Life Champ (not Terraset) by tomorrow, January 17. If you need another form please email [email protected].

Want Info About Summer Camps & Activities in Our Community?

Be sure to attend Terraset’s Family Outreach Night on Wednesday, January 22nd in the school cafeteria. There will be community representatives in attendance, ready to share information about all summer opportunities available in our community (i.e., Reston Library, Reston Camps, Reston Community Center, FCPA Camps and others). 

This will be a great opportunity for you and your child to explore different camps and resources! You will be able to sign up your child for their preferred camp/s and apply for scholarships when available!

Please note the specific time blocks for Terraset families:

•  6:00-6:45 – ESOL Families
•  6:45-7:30 – Non-ESOL Families
