Music

Mr. Andert’s Classes:

  • Kindergarten classes are beginning an introduction to xylophone unit! They will explore the mallets and instruments many different ways the next two weeks before learning to accompany their first song. 
  • 1st Graders are starting a unit on the instruments of the orchestra. They are also working on simple two beat rhythms using a song called “Tommy Tucker.”
  • 2nd Graders are continuing a xylophone unit, playing a new song about waves. They are learning three parts - a melody, an accompaniment and a sound effect part. This will become a part of a larger performance this spring. 
  • 3rd Graders have all passed their treble clef note name quiz and will receive a new recorder from the school the week before spring break. We will begin our recorder unit after spring break. This week they are continuing a xylophone unit, playing a new song about waves. They are learning three parts - a melody, an accompaniment and a sound effect part.
  • 4th Grade is learning a Japanese folk song entitled “Sakura (Cherry Blossom)” to coincide with the blooming of the cherry blossoms in Washington, D.C.
  • 5th Grade is continuing a unit on the Science of Sound. They are learning how sound waves move, how different instruments create sound, and how to protect one’s hearing

LTC

Students have been working in their LTC project in Spanish: 

  • 2 ANIMALS ON THE MOVE WITH MONARCH(writing about names, introductions, movements and body parts related to their own animal project.
  • 3 Plants and soils: Students have been advancing on their LAPBOOKS project about their plants.
  • 4 METEOROLOGIST DREAM: testing their knowledge so far reporting weather in Spanish in many ways considering: seasons, weathers, temperatures.
  • 5 Animals in ocean: Students have been making ocean animals  length conversions from feet to inches, visual measurements and writing in Spanish.
  • 6 Eco friendly school: Students have been creating their ideal zones and schedules for their ideal schools in Spanish. They use full sentence long structures.   

Most students have been working with their ELECTRONIC NOTEBOOKS reviewing and applying what we have  worked so far in each project.

Guidance

This is Orange week.  Grades 1 is doing a Kimochis lesson on how to use a talking face and body and Grades 3, 4 and 6 are finishing up a prior lesson about Perspective/Point of View.  Next week is Black week so only Grades K and 1st will have lessons which will focus on Kimochis. Grade K had FLE lessons and Grades 2 and 5 had lessons on Worries.

The Fish Bowl- Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grades

  • Kindergarten classes began a M2 Math unit - Measuring with the Froganauts.  Students practiced measuring objects with nonstandard units like paper clips, unifix cubes, and unsharpened pencils.  Next week they will be decorating rockets to measure flights to the “Froggy Space Station.”
  • 1st and 2nd grade classes celebrated PI Day all week.  Students played PI Games and created PI art.
