Language Arts
What are we learning?
- We begin our study of the interesting genre of narrative nonfiction. We will learn the features of these types of books and later in the quarter we will write our own stories following narrative nonfiction formats.
- These kind of books combine information with as story line and figurative language
Home/School Connection
- Watch the youtube video of Balloons Over Broadway, keep track of the information and note some of the interesting word choices.
- Check out a few nonfiction books from the library and have your child read them to you or a pet
Math
What are we learning?
- AAP Math will learn how to divide fractions and understand fraction division models. Then we will begin our study of positive and negative integers.
Home/School Connection
- Cut a piece of pie or cracker or brownie into parts, imagine that a serving is ½ , how many servings from your other fractional part?
- Track the weather at a particular time of day, when is it plus degrees, when is minus degrees? What is the difference?
- Discuss football or finances, when are numbers positive and negative?
Science
What are we learning?
- We are learning about the geography of the ocean floor. We will begin a first look into the chemistry of the oceans and how salinity affects ocean environments.
- AAP will be assigned a project creating a model related to our ocean unit
Home/School Connection
- Ask your child to sketch the ocean floor and explain the various parts of the ocean.
- Watch an ocean wildlife movie, notice the environment and different animals.
Social Studies
What are we learning?
- We will study Ancient China through our reading assignments and asynchronous work.
Home/School Connection
- Find China on a map, discuss why people travel there today, what are the big tourist attractions?
