Language Arts
What are we learning?
Learning About Print within Fiction
- Attempts at reading an unknown word starts with the correct first letters and matches the picture.
- Use known words and word parts to read new words.
- Use punctuation in dialogue to reflect meaning through phrasing.
Home/School Connection
- If your reader comes across an unknown word, ask your student to look at the picture to see if it will help them (if applicable)
- Ask your student to write a sentence or two about any topic they like. See if they add an exclamation point, question mark, or period at the end.
Math
What are we learning?
Addition and Subtraction Part 1
- Create and solve single-step story and picture problems using addition and subtraction within 10.
- Recognize and describe with fluency part-whole relationships for numbers up to 10.
- Demonstrate an understanding of equality through the use of the equal sign

What are we learning?
Soaring into Science (Part 1)
- Objects may have straight, circular, and back-and-forth motions
- Pushes or pulls can change the movement of an object

- Ask your student about how things move throughout your neighborhood and home.

Being an American: Leadership
- Valuing honesty and truthfulness in themselves and others
- Participating in classroom decision making
- Understand that people of Virginia have state and local government officials who are elected by voters.
- Understand people make contributions to their communities.
Home/School Connection
- Ask your student how they can help their community.
- Hold a vote about something in your house. It could be about what you eat for dinner or what movie everyone wants to watch on a movie night! Ask your student why it is important to vote.
