Art
- All grades will be doing ceramics or glazing ceramics in the next few weeks. We have smocks available, but please make sure your students are not in their best clothing on art days.
Music
Mr. Andert’s Classes:
- Kindergarten students have been learning about the piece Carnival of the Animals by the French composer Camille Saint-Saens. The did an art connection to the piece, read a book based on it, moved like the animals and watched a video of a live performance of the piece.
- 1st Grade students are learning a speech piece called “March is Here Now.” Each class is deciding how to transfer the piece to body percussion and then to non-pitched percussion instruments.
- 2nd Grade is learning their first round: Frere Jacques. We will be starting a piece for xylophone this week, too!
- 3rd Grade is learning their treble clef note names. They have used many methods to learn them: flash cards, white boards, board games, online games and, my favorite, the floor staff (ask your child to explain!). They will take their final quiz this week.
4th & 5th Grade classes are finishing a two-part unit this week: Spirituals and Jazz. They are learning to sing a traditional spiritual (This Train) which is paired with When the Saints Go Marching In. They are also learning about the characteristics of Jazz music, as well as a brief history. They are hearing lots of styles of Jazz in class.
LTC
Students are getting much more involved with their projects per grade level. These 2 weeks will be
2 writing about their animal project, labeling its body parts, writing about it using simple sentence structure. Reviewing colors and listening and/or reading descriptions of animals by color.
3 Learning about plants and their parts, as well as what kind of weather/season they can grow and live in. Tour around our school capturing in a foldable the variety of our plants that are blooming back.
4 Testing our Meteorologist understanding about different weathers and seasons in Spanish using different apps.
5 Ocean animals length: Checking out with our data in PIES (feet) and PULGADAS (inches) how many giant ocean creatures could fit in Terraset.
6 Learning about the different types of zones, including Green Zones, that schools can offer in Hispanic countries vs. in the USA. Applying to our IDEAL school. Also about some ecological programs that are offered in schools that could benefit our community.
