- Students are chunking functional texts to look at specific sections, and then determining the overall main idea and purpose of the texts.

- Find some functional texts in your mail or online to survey and scan with your child.
- Ask your child to tell you the purpose and main idea of each text.
- Ask them how the text may apply to them, and who is the targeted audience.

What are we learning?
- We are learning to identify examples of the following algebraic vocabulary: equation, variable, expression, term, and coefficient.
- We are learning to model and solve one-step equations using a variety of concrete materials.
- We are learning to solve one-step equations, demonstrating the steps algebraically.
