Language Arts

What are we learning?

  • Analyze characters in fiction stories
  • Combine ideas about characters to develop theories 
  • Include dialogue and characters’ thoughts and feelings in writing
  • Write engaging beginnings to fiction stories

Home/School Connection

  • Ask, what do you think of the character in your book? What makes you feel that way?
  • Have students share their fiction writing with you.

Math

What are we learning?

  • Show multiplication in a variety of ways including pictures, arrays, number lines, and equations 
  • Explore the relationship between multiplication and division
  • Create and extend patterns in objects, numbers, and tables

Home/School Connection

  • Discuss equal groups in real life experiences
  • Describe how numbers can be divided equally in real life experiences

AAP Math

What are we learning?

  • Fractions - understand that fractions are part of a whole. This includes part of a set, part of a group, part of a length
  • Make and name these fraction parts of a whole - halves, thirds, fourths, sixths, eighths, tenths and twelfths 
  • Compare fractions having like and unlike denominators, using words (greater than, less than, equal to and not equal) and symbols (>, <, =, or ≠)

  • Ask your child to tell you how they can use fractions in their daily life
  • Have your child describe and explain these terms: 
    • whole
    • part
    • equivalent
    • numerator
    • denominator
