Language Arts

What are we learning?

  • Students will understand that contributing, listening, and responding are equally important roles in a conversation. 
  • Students will understand that engaging in an exchange of ideas about books deepens your understanding of the text and broadens perspectives. 
  • Students will understand that connecting with people over books can change the way you feel about reading.

  • What’s worth talking about?
  • How are conflicts of the past similar to conflicts of today?
  • What is the relationship between groups (class/race/economic status/culture/religion) and power and opportunity?

Math

What are we learning?

    • Students are learning to represent and solve one-step linear equations in one variable using equation maps.
    • Students are learning to solve one-step linear equations in one variable and check my answer.

    Home/School Connection

      • Ask your student to explain how solving one-step linear equations is like balancing a scale or a mobile. 
      • Ask your student to show you how they solve these equations using the opposite operation and then check their answer.

      Social Studies

      What are we learning?

      • The student will apply social science skills to understand the challenges faced by the new nation by explaining the weaknesses and outcomes of the government established by the Articles of Confederation. 
      • The student will be able to describe the historical development of the Constitution of the United States.
      • The student will be able to describe the major accomplishments of the first five presidents of the United States.

      • How do people’s beliefs and values shape how a government is formed?
      • Where does freedom come from? 
      • In what ways might people resolve their differences? 
      • Did our founders and founding documents protect liberty or slavery?
