Language Arts

What are we learning?

  • Students continue to work on organizing, drafting, editing, and revising for writing.  We focus on developing paragraphs that include an introductory sentence, three or more supporting sentences, and a concluding sentence.  
  • Students will be working on a writing assessment on May 4-5, this Wednesday and Thursday.  They will write a 4-5 paragraph text

Home/School Connection

  • Students can complete reading passages and questions on SOL Pass for our upcoming  Language Arts SOL on Monday, May 9.
  • Save the Date!! Wednesday, May 11 from 6:30-7:30 is Terraset’s Reading Night

Math

What are we learning?

  • Students are learning to organize and interpret data in line plots and stem & leaf plots. 
  • Students are calculating the mean, median, mode and range for a given set of data.
  •  
  • In AAP math,  we are reviewing measures of the center and adding analysis of charts and graphs

Home/School Connection

  • Students can complete practice problems on SOL Pass and Jefferson Lab for our upcoming Math SOL on Friday, May 13.
  • Ask students to help find the mean (average) of any appropriate household task by using the algorithm or by finding the “fair share.”
  • Ask students to read and interpret tables, graphs and charts “in the real world” as you come across them.

Science

What are we learning?

  • Students were tested this week on Unit 4: Science in the Field. It is our last science unit of the year. We studied plant & animal cells, vertebrates & invertebrates, and vascular & nonvascular plants.

Home/School Connection

  • Students can review science vocabulary on SOL Pass or Jefferson Lab for our upcoming Science SOL on Thursday, May 19.

Social Studies

What are we learning?

  • Students will begin forming research topics for our Global Awareness Technology Project (GATP).
  • Students will work in groups to research and create a Google Site based on their research topic.
