What are we learning?

In our realistic fiction unit students are learning to:

  • Consider the lessons characters are learning by thinking about how characters change and the mistakes they make in stories
  • Reflect on their own experiences and make connections with the problems, actions, and lessons learned by characters

Students are also  learning to write realistic fiction stories! They are learning to:

  • Get ideas for realistic fiction stories by thinking about problems that happened to them or problems they notice in realistic fiction books
  • Invent realistic fiction characters that are like themselves or people they know
  • Plan important parts of their story using a story mountain
  • Include character’s thoughts, feelings, dialogue, and actions

Home/School Connection

Encourage your child to talk about the characters in stories they read! You may ask:
